"River" by James Rack
A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, James Rack moved to Honolulu in 1970 to attend the University of Hawaii.  After a year of graduate work in psychology, he pursued a hobby which soon became his profession - oil painting.  Now in his eighties, James has perfected the art of capturing light and shadow to create a sense of depth that brings the lush splendor of Hawaii to life on his canvases.  In his earlier days, James would often be found studying the play of light on the mountains and the changing colors of the landscape while windsurfing off the south shore of Oahu.  In his art, James searches for the same tranquility he looks for in life.  James' paintings have been sought after and acquired by numerous private and public collectors throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and Europe.  "River" is a 1995 framed original oil on canvas painting of a Kauai scene.
